Supporting the cause for Cawes on Bowen Island

We are very excited to announce our second annual Musical Event and Silent Auction fundraiser: Be'Cawes We Care!

The event will be held on September 21, 2013 at The Legion and will include the wrap up of our summer long on-line
silent auction, a 50/50 draw, nibblies, and liquid refreshments...and (most important) fantastic entertainment.

Our main feature: East Coast Celtic band, Lorne Warr and The Streels. Lorne is a resident Bowen Islander but he is and his band are known far and wide and all across Canada for their feet tapping, hand clapping, heart lifting musical entertainment. Also featured: Bowen's own Deer in the Headlights who will open the night and get the party started!

MC/Auctioneer, Graham Ritchie, will be on hand to entertain us while we make our bids. Even if you lose the bid, we guarantee you will have a grin on your face!

Doors Open 7:00 pm to allow early browsing of auction items. Concert begins 8:00 pm.

The event is of course in celebration of Bowen's furry and feathered friends, and provides a fun, musical way to
raise funds for a great "cawes".

Have a great summer and hope to see you at the concert in September!

Stone Hand-Carved Sculpture from Zimbabwe. Value $100.

"Zimbabwe" means "great stone house". It is fitting that stone sculpture is the art that most represents the people of Zimbabwe. The exuberance of the work, the vast varieties of stone, and the great skill and imagination of the sculptors has led to many years of major exhibitions worldwide; which have been greeted by extraordinary critical acclaim. Zimbabwean stone sculpture, despite the political and social upheavals across the country, remains a truly contemporary force, combining successfully with an ancient cultural heritage. The art is direct, powerfully human and is often extremely beautiful. This lovely piece is 14" high. Donated by Jlonka Bally-Brown.

Robert Genn Print with Frame
. Value $500.

Robert Genn was born in Victoria, B.C. Canada in 1936. His formal training included the University of Victoria, the University of British Columbia and the Art Center School in Los Angeles, California. Recognized as one of Canada's most accomplished painters, his work is well known internationally. While his subjects are universal, he excels in portraying Canada. He is perhaps best known for his work on the West Coast and in the Rocky Mountains. Robert's technique includes a tradition of strong design with patterns of color and form, with a pervasive sense of personal style. Grand themes are transposed onto small panels and larger canvases in a manner similar to members of the Group of Seven. Most of Robert's current work is in acrylic. He has also done considerable work in oils, water colour, and silk screen printing. This delightful Robert Genn print measures 16 x 24. It is beautifully framed and as you can see still wrapped in protective plastic. Donated by Cindy May.

Life In The Freezer. A Natural History of the Antarctic. Value $25 (New $200)
Mint Condition. This hard cover book is based on a BBC nature documentary, presented by David Attenborough and called "Life in the Freezer". Both book and series explore the wildlife of the world's most inhospitable region - Antarctica. Somehow, creatures adapt to even the coldest and toughest of weather conditions, from the wandering albatross - which uses the wind currents of the southern ocean to circumnavigate the globe - to the Waddell seals and emperor penguins which remain on the continent, even during the depths of winter. 27.7 x 21.8 x 1.5 cm. From Phil, an ailing and unemployed foster dad to an orphaned fawn, to Walt, a retired pipe fitter whose horses helped alleviate his heartache after the death of his son, the stories in Saved, as Rita Mae Brown says, “prove once again that love rescues us all.” 256 pages. 7.4" x 0.8" x 9.1".
